Family law is the most rapidly evolving practice area in California. The way attorneys manage a family law practice is changing just as rapidly. In an era of blended families and prenuptial agreements, it is just as important to pick the right kind of practice as it is to pick the most experienced attorney. Many family law attorneys now speak in terms of “collaborative law” where legal services are used in conjunction with financial and mental health professionals in an effort to painlessly break up a marriage into its component parts without consideration of individual rights. Some speak of “unbundling services” where the lawyer performs a specific task for the client and is then free to abandon him. Others speak of “low cost” family law where legal services are not performed by attorneys at all, but rather by unlicensed and unregulated paralegals who may have no legal experience at all.

The Law Offices of Richard T. Smith is a law firm in the most traditional sense. My only goal is personal service and aggressive protection of your rights. All of the services we offer are either performed by myself personally, or under my direct supervision. You will never have to speak with a paralegal or suffer the indignity of having your lawyer call out your name in the courtroom because he has never met you and doesn’t know what you look like.

Every case has its own strategy, and together we will prepare and execute the winning strategy for your case.
